Se7en- Opening Sequence
Se7en- Opening Sequence
The title sequence starts with a close-up shot of a book, the next camera angle is a high-angle shot looking down on the book, revealing to the viewer what is on the page, it then shows lots of different shots of close-ups on objects that don't seem to have any meaning to the viewer at that point which creates suspicions and keeps the audience guessing, the images in the book seem to give the viewer a sence of fear as the images are disturbing and creepy making the viewer, believe this is a serial killers book. There are no long shots in this title sequence so it doesn't really allow the viewer to see what's fully going on, reinforcing the mystery of it.
The lighting of the scene is very dark typical for this type of drama. The colours used are very dull and usually consist of brown, grey and black this is because this scene is used to create suspense. You can see some words being highlighted on paper, with a black pen, the black connotes death and bad things. The objects shown such as blades and needles also help create a dark mood. The props used in the opening could be associated with investigations and detective work. These include books, photos, files, pens and paper. It appears as if the person is putting pictures and information into one file or case.
All of the objects are shown very close up and therefore they take up most of the frame. This creates suspense as the audience do not know who is creating this file and doing these things as they cannot see their face or where they are. The opening is in a montage format, it is lots of different clips put together. The fact that it isn't done in an chronological order that makes sense gives the idea that this person is doing many different things to create something.
The opening title sequence starts off with slow paced shots of objects, then the editing then changes to fast paced cuts, showing a variety of different objects, giving effect as they're shown on the screen for long enough for the audience to see what they are. The credits of the film flicker on the screen like a light bulb, which is unpleasing to the eye, but tell the viewer what the kind of film it is and what happens.
The sound used in this clip, is mostly non-diegetic, and the sound makes the viewer think about danger. The background music is heavy-sounding and is quite fast. this is typical of a thriller movie as it creates suspense. The titles that are written appear in a font that resembles handwriting. This fits in with the idea of someone creating a file. the text appears in white which makes it stand out against the dark background.

Stereotypical representations of gender in Thriller and Horror films
Men are usually the heroes in typical media forms, they tend to take on the active roles whereas women tend to take on the passive roles. Visibility in the media has always been an issue as women can be seen as sexual objects, and often presented in revealing clothes whereas men wear suits or typical clothing.
The male gender are very stereotyped in in horror and thriller films. Men are usually portrayed as being very physically and mentally strong, especially protagonists, or the “hero”. Men tend to be less emotional than women. Men tend to take more active roles, and more of a team leader than females. Males in horror and thriller films tend to be brave and usually clever, however usually come across as mysterious,
Females
Women in thriller and horror films often portray a variety of roles, younger females tend to have a sense of purity and innocence, and however older women are portrayed as having great sexual appeal and can be mothers. Women usually are not the protagonist, or feature any characteristics that would help to solve the issue, such as intelligence.Traditionally women are represented in horror films as the damsel in distress and are usually being attacked by the killer because they have committed a sinful act.

Process of the Final Film making
This is the film story board this was done on the internet as we could use the images e on what our scene should be as a drawing would not be perfect. This Story board shows each scene and what we should do. However creating this on the computer we were unable to apply the different camera angles in each scene that we were going to use so the story board does not show how the camera would be showing each of the scenes.
